Australian Architect Meets Squamish Craftsman
Since inception more than 15 years ago in Perth, Australia, Living Edge Design has incorporated aspects of its surroundings into every design it produces. In the beginning, the work coming out of their small workshop was simple and elegant, inspired by the way the white sand beaches meet the sea in Western Australia. Drawing more similarities to the subtle intricacies of the ocean, the closer you look at a Living Edge Design product, the more you fall in love with the character and personality each piece develops, and the minute details that many craftspeople would have overlooked.
Years after being founded, Living Edge Design’s owner and lead designer, Mark Sutherland, took his operations over the Atlantic, eventually arriving in Squamish, BC. The environments he could draw from grew to be more than just the ocean, now encapsulating the mountains, meadows, and thick forests that Squamish has to offer. The change in scenery set Mark’s creativity on fire. Maintaining its stunning aesthetic, the company began emphasizing custom spaces. They switched their focus to how each aspect of a room works together to become even more beautiful, much like how every biome in BC moulds together seamlessly to create something extraordinary.
Fast forward 15 years past the white sand beaches, and Living Edge Design has grown from a craftsman, to a collective. The company is built up of a small group of highly trained craftspeople whose values towards design, execution, and stewardship reflect that of the company:
