Lifecycle of a Living Edge Design Project

Starting a reno can be stressful, and for good reason. It involves a lot of time, a lot of money, and a lot of blind trust in people you don’t know very well. Because of this, many choose the path of least resistance - not starting the reno at all. Although that works for some, many people would rather put up with the short-term stress of living in or around a job site for a while in exchange for their dream space down the line. This isn’t for everyone though, and there is still is a lot that can be done with the space you have and a spare weekend of work. For those of you who aren’t wanting to wait any longer than you have to, but want to make sure you’ve mentally prepared for what is about to transpire in your home, this is the article for you. This article will go through the steps of what a Living Edge Design renovation project will look like. With any luck, you’ll go into this project prepared, and will come out of the other side headache-free. Without further ado, here are the Living Edge Design steps for a rage-free renovation:

Consultation Meeting

This will be the first meeting that you have with Living Edge Design. In this session, we will discuss what you want out of your new space. We talk about your design inspirations, and you can show us anything you’ve found online or in magazines that you love the style of. We will also discuss your other preferences, such as colours, wood varieties, etc. The main goal of the consultation meeting is to get to know your style and make sure that we can provide you with the space that you deserve.

Pro Tip: A super efficient way to communicate your inspiration with us is through the use of a mood board. For more information on how to create this incredible tool, click here.

Initial Concept Drawing

After understanding your vision for the new space, we will get to work drawing up the first set of designs for the project. In this draft, we will do our best to incorporate each and every aspect that you gave us, and will arrive at the finish line with a new design that we think you will love.

Meeting #2

No matter how much we think we nailed your first design draft, there will inevitably be slight tweaks that you’ll want to make. This is exactly what we will discuss in our second meeting. We will go over the designs, discussing what we like, and would like to alter slightly.  We will make sure to take thorough notes of the changes that you’d like before making our second draft. Once we are satisfied that we know where to change our thought processes, we will next talk about the nitty-gritty specifics like hardware colour, the direction each door will open, and so on.

Design Amendment

After our revisement meeting, We will go through our original drawings with a fine-tooth comb, implementing the changes that you outlined. After making the necessary adaptations, we will send them back to you. We will continue sending designs back and forth with one another, amending the tiniest details, as many times that is needed for us to both be happy with the design we are working with.

Project Sign Off

After finding the perfect design, we will send you the final blueprint to go over. Once you’ve confirmed that’s what you want, we will both sign the plan, and we will be ready to start production.

Production

The moment you’ve all been waiting for… building time. We will take the signed design plan we have been working on, and turn this two-dimensional piece of paper into the real deal. A lot, if not most of the work will be completed in our workshop prior to the in-house construction in order to minimize your time spent living in a job site. You will be given a rough timeline of how long we will be in your space, and we will work efficiently once there. Over this time, you’ll get to watch your project come to life. Get excited. You’re almost done!

The Unveiling

You did it! Although there may have been a few dust-filled moments, it overall went off without a hitch. Take a deep breath, pour yourself a cup of coffee (or adult beverage of your choice... we don’t mind, it’s your house!), and relax in your new space. All things considered, it was worth it, wasn’t it?
